Growing a Design Community

eXalt : Pulse, make, learn

Beyond my client work, I’m actively involved in eXalt’s Design community, supporting designers, structuring knowledge sharing, and helping evolve the company’s Design practices.

Since late 2021

Context

Alongside my client work, I gradually took on different roles within the Design community. These initiatives allowed me to develop skills in mentoring, facilitation, Design Ops, and team support that now enrich my practice as a Product Designer.

Roles

Design Training Lead

Training played an essential role in developing the Design community. I led the training catalogue by identifying skills to develop, supporting contributors as they created their content, and coordinating the training roadmap. My role was primarily about creating the conditions for knowledge to be shared and sustained across the community.

UI Mentor

Every designer had different needs and levels of experience.
I supported several designers in developing their skills, mainly around Figma, UI Design, and design best practices. Beyond the tools themselves, these conversations were an opportunity to share ways of working and help each designer become more autonomous.

Supporting New Consultants

Joining a new company often comes with many questions.
As a Guide, I supported new consultants during their first year at eXalt. My role was to answer their questions, point them towards the right resources, and help them find their bearings, making it easier for them to integrate into the community.

Community Facilitation

A community is built on more than client work.
I contributed to facilitating the Design community by sharing industry insights, organizing workshops, contributing to the development of the framework, and creating opportunities for designers to connect and exchange. The goal was to strengthen connections between consultants and help useful initiatives emerge across the community.

Looking Back

These experiences helped me develop skills that complement my client work. Supporting other designers also changed the way I collaborate, share knowledge, and structure Design practices.

What Worked

Building on the community’s skills and expertise to develop training and initiatives encouraged knowledge sharing and helped more designers get involved in eXalt’s community life.

What I Would Do Differently

I would look for better ways to measure the impact of the initiatives we put in place, making it easier to identify what creates the most value for the community and guide future actions.

What This Experience Taught Me

Supporting other designers taught me that sharing knowledge is not about providing answers, but creating an environment where everyone can grow, share what they know, and become more autonomous.
